Training guidelines until May

Hello everyone, thank you all for making the camp fun and interesting. I really enjoyed the classic ski to the Fraser Loop yesterday and the game of charade last night. Have a great rest from team training in the next few weeks. Team training will resume on Tuesday May 6 at 4 pm. I will be back at Team training on May 12 after a month long trip to Nepal. Thanks for the great ski season, it was fun. Alain

Training guidelines;

- now that regular team training has ended, it is a good time to reflect on your past ski season and set goals for the upcoming season, based on our discussion in the individual athlete meetings we had last week.

- make sure to take an appointment with your family physician and ask to have a complete medical check up including basic blood work to make sure everything is in good order. It would also be a good idea to make an appointment with a physiotherapist to have an assessment done to make sure there are no functional issues. It is better to catch any potential issues before they give you problems.

- as far as training in April is concerned, it is a good idea to do some fun skiing while the conditions are still good. April is usually the best time of the year to ski in skating. Best time for skate skiing is usually early or late in the day to avoid the soft and slow snow conditions from the mid afternoon.

- you will also want to start doing some running to get ready for team training in May. Start by doing a few short runs to get use to running and progressively increase the time you run for each week to be able to run for an hour or more by May 6.

- it would be a good idea to start doing a bit of strength training in April to get your body used to doing strength training as we will start doing circuit training in May. One or two short sessions per week to get back into the motion would be plenty.

- finally, doing other aerobic activities is always a good idea to maintain your base of fitness during the transition period.

Take care. Alain
