Training guidelines and training camp schedule

Hello everyone, now that the Blue Squad training season is over, it is a good time to take a look back at the season that just passed and plan for the one coming up.

I am attaching some general training guidelines for the next month as well as including the training camp schedule to help your summer planning. Also, please find attached some information for the next camp at Sky High/Fish Lake on April 18-19.

Please let me know if you have any questions in the meantime. Take care. Alain

Summer training camp schedule;

- April 18-19: Fish Lake/Sky High (skiing/snowshoeing/hiking) depending on snow conditions
- May 2-3: Carcross/Montana Mountain (skiing/hiking/snowshoeing) depending on snow conditions
- June 26-30 Atlin Lake (hiking/running/strength/roller skiing)
- July 24-26 Haines Rd./Dezadeash Campground (roller skiing/strength/hiking)
- Aug. 28-30 Haines Rd./Dezadeash Campground (roller skiing/strength/hiking)

Training guidelines for April;

- make sure to take an appointment with your family doctor and get a comprehensive checkup, including blood work. You will likely have to ask your physician and let them know you are training year round in order to get this done.

- if you have had any injuries, issues with joints or any muscles group during the past season that have affected your training, it would be a great idea to consult with a physiotherapist prior to the start of the new training season. It is the best time of the year to correct any underlying issues that may have caused you problems in the last 12 months.

- take some time now and identify any of the following: strengths and weaknesses in the following areas (physical, technical and mental). This will help you be focus in the coming season to make the changes needed that will help you the most in improving your skiing. We will have individual athlete meetings at the next camp to go over these.

- finally, April is a time to recover from the training and racing season and allow your body to regenerate from the last 11 months of training. April is a transition period where you should slowly start to get ready for the dryland training season that will start in May. You should start running slowly for short periods each week (2-3 times 20-30 min) as we will be running in May for training. You should also slowly get back into strength training just going over various exercises to get your joints ready for strength training in May (push ups, sit ups, dips, pull ups, core exercises etc.). April is also a great time to go and explore different areas for skiing, lakes, mountains etc.

April camp information

Plan on coming to the Sky High Ranch for the Saturday and Sunday, April 18-19. We will decide closer to the date on what we will do for activities as it will depend on the snow conditions left at the time. We will discuss training, have individual athletes meetings and generally have a fun time on snow. I will send the complete info closer to the camp.
