Update from the Eastern Canadian and the World Junior

It was the first day of competition at the Eastern Canadian Championships today. For the Open categories, it was a day of sprinting while for the rest of the skiers the races consisted of a 3 km prologue using the classic technique.

It was a good start for the Yukon skiers at the event with multiple top 10 finishes in the various year of birth awards;

Caelan Mclean 20th in 1.4 km classic sprint in the Junior Men category

Derek Deuling 5th in the 3 km Juvenile (2002)

Victor Emile Thibeault 15th in the 3 km Juvenile (2002)

Ben Puskas 22nd in the 3 km Juvenile (2002)

Sasha Masson 23rd in the 3 km Juvenile (2002)

Romeo Champagne 38th in the 3 km Juvenile (2002)

Nichollis Schmidt 13th in the 3 km Juvenile (2001)

Michael Kishchuk 17th in the Junior Boy (1999)

Sonjaa Schmidt 11th in the 3 km Juvenile (2002)

Amanda Thomson 3rd in the 3 km Junior Girl (2000)

Hannah Deuling 2nd in the 3 km Junior Girl (1999)

Mira Mason 4th in the 3 km Junior Girl (1999)

At the World Junior Championships in Utah earlier today, Natalie Hynes had the best international finish of her career with a 28th place finish in the 10 km skiathlon. Natalie was the top Canadian in the event.

Tomorrow the races will resume with the U23 skiers and another opportunity for Dahria Beatty to do well in the 15 km skiathlon.
