Highlights from the 2014 Nationals for the Yukon Ski Team

Hello everyone, I hope you are all enjoying a bit of a break after a busy week.

I just wanted to summarize the highlights from these past Nationals now that all of the results have been finalysed from the organisers. These were the best ever Nationals for the Yukon skiers since the Junior and the Senior Championships have been combined back in 2001. Here are some of the highlights from the past week;

- in the overall club aggregate, the Whitehorse Ski Club finished in second place, matching the previous best ever achieved in 2007 and in 2012

- in total, the skiers from the Yukon competing in the Nationals have won a total of 19 medals improving from our previous best ever from the 2007 Nationals in Mt-Ste-Anne, which was the best ever prior to this year.

- in total, ten different skiers won medals from the Yukon. This is by far a best ever!

Dahria Beatty 5 medals (3 gold, classic team sprint with Emily- ind. 5 km classic, mass start 20 km classic and  - 1 silver in the 10 km skate- 1 bronze in the 1.4 km sprint)
Emily Nishikawa 3 medals (2 gold, 1 in the team sprint with Dahria and in the 5 km ind. classic-1 silver in the 30 km classic)
Graham Nishikawa 3 medals (1 gold in the 1.5 km skate sprint-1 silver in the 15 km ind. skate-1 Bronze in the 50 km classic)
Knute Johnsgaard 3 medals (1 silver in the 1.5 km skate sprint-2 bronze, 10 km classic and and team sprint with Colin, )
Annah Hanthorn (3 bronze- Team sprint classic with Kendra-5 km ind. classic-20 km mass start classic)
Caelan Mclean (1 gold in the 15 km classic)
Simon Cash (1 silver in the 10 km classic)
Hannah Deuling (1 silver in the 7.5 km classic)
Colin Abbott (1 bronze in the team sprint with Knute)
Kendra Murray (1 bronze in the team sprint with Annah)

- Also a best ever was a total of 32 top ten finishes in individual races achieved by 12 different skiers in five different age group or categories.
