Maybe the best ever day at the Nationals for Yukon skiers

It will be a day to remember for the Yukon skiers participating in the 2014 Ski Nationals. Today was perhaps our best ever single day performance for the Yukon skiers.

The day started well with the 50 km classic race which included three of our skiers. All three managed to finish in the top 7 in the field. Graham won the bronze medal while Knute finished 6th and Colin 7th. Knute was the second skier in the under 23 category and managed to win the under 23 aggregate title for the Championships and finished 3rd overall in the open men for the Championships. Graham just missed winning the aggregate title finishing one point short of Kevin Sandau who was second overall today.

The second race of the day included two Yukon skiers in the open women. Emily finished second while Kendra finished 9th.

The next race was for the open women where we had 2 skiers. Dahria won the gold medal while Annah won the bronze.

Following the junior women were the juvenile boys with won skier competing. Simon had the race of his life finishing second.

Following the juvenile boys were the junior boys with 4 skiers. Again, an amazing day with Caelan winning the gold with Marcus a close 4th. Hudson had the best placing of the week with a 19th place and Mac finishing 30th despite crashing 3 times during the race.

The next race was for the juvenile girls where we had 5 skiers competing. Again, a great day with Hannah Deuling finishing second and Natalie Hynes finishing 5th, close to the podium. Our other skiers also had a great day, finishing in the following order, Mira in 18th, Alexis in 20th and Hannah S. in 39th.

Yukon skiers managed to win at least one medal in each of the category where we had a skier competing.

The total number of medals for the week was 17, matching the best ever total from the 2007  Nationals in Mt-Ste-Anne.

All for now. Alain
