First race at the World Junior Trials in Utah

Hello everyone, it was a challenging first day at the World Junior Trials in Soldier Hollow, former Olympic venue for the 2002 OWG. As it is often the case coming to high altitude, the first race can often prove challenging without a long preparation at these altitudes.

The races were delayed in the morning due to the temperatures been below the legal limit of -20. It was very cold for the women starting first with many signs of frostbite on athletes during the races. By the time the men started in mid-day, it was much more pleasant (-10 or so).

The best results for our Yukon junior skiers were done by Natalie Hynes who was 5th amongst the Canadian skiers, Hannah Deuling who finished 18th and Caelan Mclean who finished 19th.

The races will now switch to the classic technique for the next 2 events on Sunday and on Tuesday, a technique most Yukon skiers prefer :-)
